My Poem...:-)

In Memory of a Soldier

I
When he was young, he dreamt of being a soldier
A steadfast, brave and loyal peacekeeper
This was what his old man wanted
His father's desire he unhesitantly granted
II
He played with toy guns and maleficent weapons
War memorabilia was above all his priced possessions
Gunshots were his unfathomable lullaby
Whilst his mother feared them as they went by
III
He was an exalted fanatic
But to many he was a delusional lunatic
His love for being a soldier was misunderstood
He tried to prove them wrong, he tried to as hard as he could
IV
Now he is war's diminutive soldier
No longer a steadfast, brave and loyal peacekeeper
He fought in malevolent ways and slayed without cease
He did not give his enemies another breath of life's lease
V
Countless life departed bodies lay before him
To himself he placed a humble query, "what will be of them?"
What will be of the families of the men he killed?
To the harsh reality, shall they all yield?
VI
This is not his sole fault
He held no full account of the assault
He fought for his country
This is his duty, his given responsibility
VII
He fought for what they say is right
Not through peaceful ways but by arrogant might
He held back for war nothing
He gave it his all, his everything
VIII
For what you might ask?
He says for the completion of his pledged task
For whose glory? You might add
For his country's and his dear old dad's
IX
Did he choose the wrong dream?
Is everything not what it seem?
He became the finest asset of war
He came to be the best liability of peace
X
The end of war is drawing near
He guessed he had nothing to fear
They are winning, the enemies are losing
But his mind kept a jovial taunting
XI
They came home with full honor and glory
Their victory was in the news, the front page story
Everybody called them heroes, they called him a 'hero'
But they do not know his heart's misery and its deep sorrow
XII
For in his soul, he kept hearing a voice
It whisphered audibly amidst the crowd's roaring noise
"You are no hero but a cold-hearted mercenary!"
To this he agreed with no further query
XIII
To whose name shall he explain?
To whom shall he share his pain?
No one, no one but solitude hears
As he confess with eyes filled with tears
XIV
He is no hero, he is a killer
His dreams of being a soldier
A steadfast, brave and loyal peacekeeper
Now drifting and dying in his tumultuous slumber
XV
No peace in his life remain
No memories good to retain
For in his dreams, he held for dire life
Unknowing it will bring him his life's eternal strife
